Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
23 years
What is your primary product or service?
The product is GridPro: a grid generation suite for computer aided engineering. Grid (mesh) generation is the middle-ware between Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) of which we have a concentration in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
After my Ph.D., my work started with the study of nuclear weapons effects at an Air Force Laboratory in New Mexico where I had my first exposure to CFD in its very very early stages. The next phase was that of a researcher at United Technologies Research Center with a focus on Turbomachinery. From there the next move was to NASA with a focus on aerospace matters. After all of this, I became a Professor of Applied Physics at Columbia University during which I formed the company. In the progression of the various roles that I played, I was highly involved in the establishment of the then new topic of CFD and in particular of grid generation. This last topic includes the core topic of the business.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
The GridPro software suite is distinguished from the competitors by having the highest level of grid quality possible and to the relatively automatic means to do so. The automation is very high but not as high as some of the competitors who will offer such automation with very low quality. In the application of CFD, grid quality translates very quickly into results that represent the flow physics well as apposed to giving a fuzzy picture of what is happening. This is an important point when engineering judgements are made to steer a design that is dependent upon complex flow physics.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have locations throughout the world. This includes France, Germany, the Czech Repuplic, Japan, Korea, India, China (PRC),Taiwan, and Turkey.
